My First Lesson in Thai Cooking

Most people close to me know that making good food and eating it are two of my favorite things in the world. I am very grateful, then, that Bangkok is filled with so many people who feel the same way!

I spent two days in February at the Silom Thai Cooking School. My first class was taught by 'Oliver' (not his real name, but an easy one for all his 'farang' students to pronounce). His English was very good (dee-maak), as was his teaching:

A talk about Thai spinach and lemongrass
Oliver leads leads our training at the open market

This machine is awesome - instant coconut shreds
Tiger prawns: Over-farmed but bigger and tastier than shrimp
"The small ones are hot, the big ones are decoration only"
A short lesson on 'aubergines' (the English here is sooo English)
